Apart from aesthetical appearance and dimensional differences, there is not much of a difference between the two types of doors. The overall process remains more or less the same.
The Process to Be Followed
To replace the old commercial garage door, first you’ll have to take the old one out. While taking the old garage door out, you may want to make a note of the various hinges and positioning of the operator. Once you have done that, it’s installing time!
- Place the first panel with the weather stripping end on the floor.
- To install the vertical track, you need to slide the rollers on the first panel till the end of the track. Lower the panel into the right place.
- Setup the second panel following the similar process. Needless to say, the second panel would be placed on the top of the first panel, which means that the hinges of the first panel would get attached to the bottom of the second panel.
- Tighten all the screws properly.
Now, the track needs to be secured further up the wall in a way that keeps it attached to the bottom of the last panel that was being installed. You can setup the rest of the panels one above the other by using the above mentioned technique. Ensure that the vertical track is fixed properly to the wall by fixing the top plates on each side of the doorway.

Once the vertical track is fixed, you need to connect the horizontal and curved tracks by installing and fixing them tightly on the ceiling. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to assemble the horizontal, vertical and curved parts (if any) of the track.
If you don’t want to use the garage door opener, install the spring and the torque tube. And if you intend to use the opener, you need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install the same.
